Jul 7, 4:26am: Ive been meaning to post this for some time now, this is the last assignment I did for an online English Composition class I had to compare doing a research paper to weekly work. The only way i could actually fill the demand was to be brutally honest, and truthfully i was the only student turning in assignments. LOL I got a week off of homework when I was the only student to complete and post work that had to be reviewed by another student. Needless to say I aced the class :]

Jul 7, 4:17am: Talented Writer or Playful Procrastinator?

The major difference between writing the research paper, and any other assignment that has been due for the duration of this class, was the dependence and usage of sources. All of the other papers required a proper examination of the appropriate reading material and personal opinion played a key factor in the manifestation of every other assignment that has been due so far. The planning and organization of the research paper, which I personally procrastinated upon, was necessary to properly analyze sources and distinguish usable information from unusable information.

All of the assignments, that I have turned in, were written the day that they were due. The research paper, however, took the longest amount of time and was the most difficult. I worked until five hours before it was due, just like all of my previous and ongoing work, and began working on the document from scratch, not really scratch I did know my topic. I did wish that I could have changed my research topic to something a lot more interesting than abstinence in education. My study area is equipped not only with my laptop, but also a desktop, which displayed all of my sources, and made cranking out an assignment of each magnitude easily accomplished by properly dedicating the time I made available completely productive and efficient. Maintaining a healthy sleep schedule and avoiding alcohol are two key elements that any online college student must avoid to accomplish what I claim to on a weekly or bi-weekly basis.

Aside from time that was consumed on each assignment for this class, the major difference between the research paper and the others is that personal opinion and input could carry the weight, or length, of the paper. The research paper that I wrote drew heavily on summarizations of other author's writings. Every time an idea was shifted, or another source was used in the research paper the correct and proper citation was required, and also added to the rhythm of writing the document, which is comparatively different between that particular assignment and the others.

In the other documents, sources were not ever required, but intelligence and ingenuity was. To properly draft a research paper, in the manner that I did, I had to maintain organization and focus at all times, draw my own conclusions through quick summarization while avoiding plagiarism and sticking to my thesis, and maintain a pace that would allow me to complete the assignment before it was due. The other papers were entirely easy for me to draft, did not require citation, and if you added the time it took to write and process the other papers it would be no where near the equivalence of the research paper. The rhythm for writing the source less papers, when not disturbed, was easy for me to fall into.

Basically my differences between the research paper and the other assignments required so far are that topics were basically predetermined and that the research paper required either fast, incredibly efficient, and skilled writing in the proper studying conditions, or meticulous work stretched through out the duration of time given by the instructor to complete the work. Previous study of the topic beforehand helps, but does no good if a source determining the same knowledge is not available. I chose to write the paper in a fast and efficient manner, knowing that I was capable of doing so, and wrote the other papers even quicker. To me, not being able to crank out the research paper with as much ease and as little dedication, as all of the other and today's work, was the major difference between the assignments that I have handed in.
